Shari Lewis was a ventriloquist/puppeteer who is most famed for her puppet Lamb Chop, a Lamb that she used as the basis of her children’s show. Before having her own show, she and Lamb Chop appeared on Captain Kangaroo.  Long before video games or the Internet, Lewis was a proponent of interactive entertainments of a kinder, gentler sort and she encouraged children to join her, Lamb Chop, and her other puppet costars in singing a song or making a puppet themselves. Lewis was something of a renaissance woman, as she played piano and violin, danced, and acted in addition to ventriloquism. Young Shari Lewis Pictures are as under.
